Have any of you installed a winch yourself on the Sportsman 700? Some people tell me that you don't need a mount kit because the winch just mounts right to the grill after removing a slotted plate. Others say they used a kit. I don't know if the difference is the ones needing a kit are genaric Warn winches and the ones that don't are Polaris sold Warn winches or what. Any help with this would be appreciated.

SIlverV10 -

I helped a buddy of mine install the Warn 2000 on his 700. He got the kit, bought right from Polaris. If I remember right, you could do it with out the kit, but it would not be a good idea because the only thing holding the winch would be the composite material of your grill. The kit provides a backer plate of 1/4" steel to hold the winch and bolt into the frame.

Just so you guys know here is what I asked Warn and what their response was.

Question:
I am about to buy one fo your ATV winches. I own a Polaris Sportsman 700.
I have gotten conflicting info on mounting kits. Some say the 700 does not
need a kit, you just remove a plate in the front bumper and mount using
the bolts supplied with the winch. Others say to use the mounting kit that
is listed for the Sportsman 500 because other than the engine the two
ATV's are the same.. Can you please clear this up for me. Thanks.

Response:
Both pieces of information are incorrect. The winch does need a mount kit on
that application and the 500 bike mount will not be the same.
We are still working on the design for the 700 mount kit and should go into
production in about a month.
However, if you have not bought the winch yet, Polaris currently offers a
mount/winch kit that will fit your bike. This kit comes with both the mount
and the Warn winch as a package unit. The fixed mount should be in production in about a month or so and then the multi-mount will probably a month after that.

i think the multi-mount winch would be the way to go. i'd love to be able to mount my winch to the front or rear of the bike. plus, there are a few neat options that you can buy that only work with the multi-mount system. check-out the polaris atv brochure!
just a thought.......MT

I've decided to wait for the multi mount system. It will be worth it.
