It's late and I'm tired, but I'm going to throw this out, not necessarily for yzf400f only, and see what happens.
Anybody who has been in the forums for awhile now and knows me should also know that I have a nice '99 400L, with too many mods to go into right now. I've recently been analyzing priorities in my life and decided to place ATV'ing lower on the list. Hence, I might be willing to let go of my 400L, for a reasonalbe price.
If interested E-mail me to discuss the issue further. I know there is a seperate section for classifieds and don't want to tie up this thread with anymore info right now.
But, to answer your question yzf400f I'd go with the 2-Stroke. More mods availabe right now, lighter than the 500 (but still a pig), and cheaper.

To make it short and to the piont i have a SCR500, my buddy rides a SCR400, after switching back and forth, I definitly prefer riding my 500 and I think he does since he is contemplating selling his to buy a SCR500, don't get me wrong they ar both excelent machines that will go through anything in its way but the extra power and the 4 stroke reliability factor puts it over the edge in my book, but hey, thats just my opinion. hope it helps.

Sounds like your more into the racing side of it then just trial riding. If thats the case then you may want to go with the 400. You will get alot more power for less money for any future upgrades. Plus save a little weight, (a little). 2 strokes are no less reliable then 4 strokes, in my opion. Less moving parts increases reliability and lowers cost af any repairs. Either bike is a good one. For me I'd pick the 400 though. Have fun!

I went to the dealer to purchase a pair of 4 stroke machines... i rode them all.... and bought a pair of 2 stroke machines. Reason? We weren't going to work them, we trail ride and race around on them. I felt that the 2 strokers offered more for us in that regard. And like many have said before... easy to mod!
