In one of the industry magazines (magazines designed for dealers) there is a monthly column called the Polk report. It tells monthly totals , yearly totals , comparatives from year to year , pie graghs , and state by state totals .
It sounds like what you guys are looking for , but , I am not sure if you will be able to get a copy . Try online line for R.L. Polk , maybe you can find something that way .

WOW!!!!
ATV's almost outsell the other catagories combined. Why are aftermarket parts so much? Why are performance ATV's not as current as Motorcycles?
Are these number skewed due to most ATV's sold are Utilities and used for work?
To many questions not enough answers.

Suprising , isn't it ?
ATV's ARE the motorcycle industry . For many years now ATV's have been sold in much higher numbers than dirtbikes .
I don't exactly understand the million dollar salaries for the MX racers since the market share is so tiny . I guess all things concidered the money spent on promoting your motocross line of motorcycles pays off , otherwise manufacturers wouldn't do it .
ATV's on the otherhand , I would think would be more profitable to produce . Here is my reasoning :
1. R&D expenses
ATV's don't get updated nearly as often or drasticly as the MX bikes. R&D costs and tooling changes are not nearly as much of a factor in cost of producing a ATV Vs. a MX bike.
2. Volume
This is self explanitory.
On the bright side , remember this , with all the quads being produced (enough to be half the motorcycle industry ) the manufacturers know this is a lot of revenue for them . They have a vested interest in making sure there are places to ride them , be assured some of the profits from ATV production are filtered to the politicians for good behavior .
