It's been rumored among some of the ATV enthusiasts in the area that buying a Polaris ATV or Sled in Canada can save some mega-bucks. Does anybody have any further information on this? Taxes, customs, etc?

I just talked to a salesman from Rock Forest Canada in Quebec. They said it was no problem selling me a Polaris atv. They gave me a price of $5690 for a sp500 and $6570 for a sp700. He said what they do is fax the contract so that you can register the atv in your state , then when you go up to buy it (certified check or cash) and they see that it is registed, the taxes would be waved. So it sounds easy to buy one.

I e-mailed several dealer in Canada, and this is the only response that I got. This message is from ATC Corral, in Ontario, Canada.

Dear Valued Customer:

I am sorry but we are not allowed to sell any new machines to U.S. Citizens, under any circumstance.

Thanks for your inquiry,

Bill

The salesman I talked to said it was no problem to sell it to me. I wanted to make sure, so I told him again that I was from NH and he said no problem. But I think this can only be done by cash or certified check.

If a polaris dealer knowingly sells a new machine for export, they would be doing so against their dealer contract with polaris. Only drawback from buying a polaris in Canada is that US dealers are not obligated to do any work under warranty. The prices quoted from the Quebec dealer are steep. Fair market prices in US equivalent are $6000 US for a 700 and $5600 for a 500 HO . There are no duties to be paid as it is product made in the USA.

As for Bill at ATC corral, he is a local dealer here and a very straight shooter.

A legit dealer may not be such a bad thing!
