I should be getting my new HPD Nickel Trail pipe w/clutch kit in the mail hopefully tommorrow. By looking at the pics that some of you have on the net I see most with performance pipes do not use that black plastic heat shield.

Do I need it? Will it burn my leg? I never wear shorts when I ride, always long jeans. I would prefer not to put it back on if I don't need it. Shows more of that nice crome!! What do you guys think?

keep it , or get burned, its going to save you about as much weight as if you took a **** before you went riding, if your so content on showing off your pipe, then get a plastic sheild

I have put a nickel plated pipe on my trailblazer and I also wanted to show it off so I did not put my heat shield back on and I really have not had a problem with it not being on there although every once in a while your leg will touch it or come close to touching it and you'll know right away.
The best I can tell you is to let it off and go for a ride and see if it bothers you,,if it does just put it back on,no big deal..
I did not have a problem with it so I went ahead and did some cutting on my plastic to make it look a little sportier and now the only way I could put mine back on is if I where to buy new plastic and as I've said I'm very happy with mine the way it is..
Hope this helps some,,,,,gotta love those chrome parts go ahead and show them off,,hell your payin for them..

When I put my DG pipe on I couldn't even put it back on because it was to fat which was OK with me because I think it really makes the quad look better. I like to see the shine. I've never really had a problem, as long as you wear pants, even if your leg touches just for a second you don't burn yourself. I never really have burned except once when I wore shorts. The only other reason I may suggest putting it back on would be if your just putzing around or if family or beginners have to ride it. I say, you payed the money for a sweet looking pipe, let it show.

I would keep it on, I am an aggressive rider and would not want to have to think about not burning my leg. I feel a lot of heat even with it on.

Screw, I got my little scrambler at Walmart, but I have way more now wich I just posted pictures of if you'd like to take a look, at other stores like PeeVee Mart, ebay, and a models store. My collection includes:
Polaris scrambler 500 4x4
Mini Polaris scrambler 400 4x4
Polaris Sportsman 400 and also a 500HO
Polaris Ranger 6x6
yellow 400ex
Misc. Dune quad
Yamaha RZ street bike
Thers more, I'm just slowly making my collection.
I plan on owning all these in life size when I have the money, which will probably never happen!

I'm as aggressive as they come and as long as you have pants on or can't even handle a little heat, leave it off. Maybe it's just because I've road motorbikes all my life, but my mind just automatically is smart enough not to let my leg sit on a hot pipe.

Thanks everyone....more then likely I will put it back on. Reduce leg burns and maybe try to keep some of the "stock" look for those who would not know anyway.

You will have to trim it to accept the new pipe. I do suggest putting it back on.

In my case I have an FTR so I dont need it, and gladly scrapped it.
