I am looking to purchase a Polaris Trailblazer for the wife, possibly this weekend. I have a Honda 400 ex which requires very little upkeep and maintenance. I hear you have to lube the Polaris before each ride. Is that true? I ride mostly in the desert and in the dunes (Glamis). I have never owned a 2 stroke bike, does it require a lot more work? It appears people either love the polaris or hate the polaris.

The maintenance and reliabilty issue's concerning Polaris ATVs are the worst on the market.I have owned two brand new Polris 4x4 ATVs and both quads are POS,allways something wrong most of the time.

The non Utility type Polaris ATVs seem much more reliable than the 4x4 Polaris quads, this could be because there're alot simplier ATV?The Trailblazier is a very nice ATV with little to no maintenance and a good track record for reliability.

THe maintainance issue is mainly greasing.Unlike Honda Polaris does put zerks on most moving parts. As for the 2stroke no big deal just remind your wife to ride it hard or you will be putting in alot of plugs.

I had a 1993 Trail Boss for eight years which is very similar to the machine you are thinking of purchasing. The only time you have to grease the machine is when it is ridden in water or twice per year as regular maintenance. I greased mine when it was taken swimming and twice per year other wise. I spent $500 total on the machine which included one piston and a set of four tires in the eight years I owned it (and sold it for $500 less than I paid for it). Besides the grease you need to keep the air filter clean and the oil tank full...that is about all there is to it.
