I will make a long story short. I got into a nearly bottomless drainage vein off the river behind my house. The black river muck was almost to the seat, stalled the engine a few times and I was chest level to the handlebars, crotch deep in black river muck and it was about 30 degrees out.

Anyway, after I got everything cleaned up, including myself, I greased every fitting thoroughly to purge water and sandy mud, checked all the fluids and nothing looked milky at all to my surprise. Do I need to drain the starter or recoil housing, or both or do they drain themselves?

Thanks,
Snowman

If it were me, I would not risk it. I would change all the fluids. Especially if it was submerged for a length of time. Its just not worth the risk.

The other things to drain are the air box, clutch housing (Must take it off), the recoil (There is a drain plug underneath), and muffler (bolt underneath).

If your fluids arent like a milkshake its probably fine.
Change it anyway, for your own sake of mind.
YES, drain the recoil. That also drains the starter.
Did you check the rears

500DUSE,
Check the rears? I don't know what that means - if that is the rear differential, there isn't one on a Scrambler because it is rear chain drive. If that is not it, then let me know.

As far as the recoil, I think I checked it last night and it was bone dry. I had to remove the skid plate and the plug was just above the front drive shaft (major poor design for accessibility). Does that sound like the correct location?

I haven't checked the air box, yet, but thanks for the tip, 2000SCRMBLRMAN. I will do that next. Clutch didn't ingest any water - the intake tube was above the waterline and I have a new seal on at the engine. By the way - the new seal took care of my water problem, too (good thing).

Thanks,
SnowDrift

Change your front differentialoil. It holds @4ounces of fluid.

Sorry,
I keep calling the tranny the rear...duh.As farmer said ...check the front diff, and the tranny

In the future, the first things to check when you get it out is...
oil...AIR BOX...and tranny...then dump it on it's side to get the water out of the belt houseing.
Then when you get it home,go over it.

I agree with the drain bolt for the recoil, you can always drill an access hole
