Hey guys -- just bought a 2000 Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4. It's in near showroom condition. The guy was going through a divorce, never rode it, and had to sell because of his financial situation. Anyway, I was wondering what I should replace first to improve reliability. I know there are some steering component issues. Should I have the machine fully serviced just for peace of mind? I'd appreciate any advice that could be given.

The only thing I would suggest would be to replace the lower steering post bearing. For some reason they are plastic and tend to wear out fast. HPD, Ritter, or Hotseat sells these for $30. Just do some normal maintenance if has been sitting and you should be good.

I changed all the fluids on mine when I first got it. That way I knew how good the guy before me took care of it. Also, see what condition the air filter is in, and grease the quad up and you should be all set. Just follow all the maintenance tips in the owners manual and your Scram should hold up fine. You will love it!
