how do you chage oil in crankcase on 2 stroke
#21
I just picked up a 03 trailblazer 400 liquid cooled. Coolant was leaking into the combustion chamber. The quad has been sitting for years so all the seals are dried up. I pulled the right side case apart. Inside consists of two gears one drive gear off that crank and a driven gear for the water pump. That gear may be a counter balance. Didn't pull it out. The water pump shaft and gear are one piece. The water pump is between the engine case and outer cover. Very strange design. There are two crankcase crankshaft seals on the right side. There is a dipstick and drain in the engine case and a fill hole in the recoil cover. Hope this helps

Since it's a 2-stroke it doesn't have a crankcase full of oil like a 4-stroke, but the counterbalance needs oil. I believe it's only 5 ounces. 4-strokes like the 500 need something like 64 ounces of oil. And that's not a fill hole in the recoil cover. You can peek in the hole to see if anything is in there, but it should be dry at all times.

how much oil goes in the crankcase and how much oil goes in the transmission just got this ATV please help

I have a 96 scrambler 400 2 stroke and I can’t keep it running I have to constantly drain the crankcase to get it to start what causes that and are there any solutions , I run a 36:1 gas oil ratio I’m not sure if the oil is making it where my fuel won’t burn.

The crankcase gets it's lubrication from the gas/oil mixture (gas in the tank, oil in the reservior, oil pump pumps oil). The crankcase is internally separated from the counterbalancer. You can actually remove the crankcase drain plug and run the engine a little bit to expel any gas/oil residue.

That's not a stupid question, because a lot of people don't realize the 2 cycle 350 and 400 liquid cooled Polaris' have an Engine Counterbalancer that runs in oil.
The dipstick for the Counterbalancer is located between the carb and the cylinder, looking on the right side down, with the seat (and maybe the airbox inlet duct) removed. It is recommended to replace the oil every 100 hours or once a year.
There is also a crankcase drain on the bottom of the crankcase (10mm hex) to drain oil and gas residue from the crankcase, or if you flood the engine.
