How many carry a gun while riding?

kodiak2k, why would you think that just because some of us don't think it's necessary to carry a gun every where we go we're "anti-gun idiots"?
I don't think guns should be outlawed at all, but neither do I think it's a good idea for everybody to be carrying a gun around all the time thinking they're Doc Holiday or Jesse James.
Some of the people who responded here are ranchers, and I understand why they would carry a gun. Others, from Alaska, have a legitimit reason to carry one. I said as much earlier when I said that if I was in the N.W.T. I would carry one.
But people who try and talk tough about shooting someone who was stealing their tv, and then burying them in the desert? I really don't think that people like that should be trusted with a gun.
Of course it probably is just talk. If he ever did have to face someone who was shooting back (instead of those dangerous beer cans) he'd probably p!ss his pants and run hide.
Sure does talk tough though!

I rarely carry a gun riding on my 26 acres, but do carry one if riding in bear country. It's just so hard to decide which one to carry.....44 Mag. Super Blackhawk, .357 Colt, .45 Blackhawk, .45 Colt ACP, .45 Kimber ACP, .44 Mag. Marlin, 45-70 Marlin, .45 Colt Winchester, Ruger Ranch Rifle...etc...
All kidding aside, I enjoy my firearms but also respect them. I don't ride around acting like Jesse James. I never joke around about shooting others, but I pity the fool who ever threatens my family.

When I ride with my friends I don't carry a gun but My wife she is a major gun collector and will always bring a 9 MM or a 40 MM just a twist. She is also a Police officer so that could be why she likes guns it kinda fun having a wife you can call a Pig.

I've known of people being jacked out on the trails. When alone, I ride with O. E. Mossberg beside me. Unsolved Mysteries has profiled a case where three men were murdered while riding their atvs. I have worried about our group when we ride out in the Boonies. Especially when we split up and head home in the late evening. Why take a chance? There are some crazy people out there.
The gun control thing is way lame. Australia forced its citizens to give up their guns and as a result, armed criminal acts rose over 44 percent. Criminals are always going to have weapons, that's why gun control won't and doesn't work. Gun laws will eventually keep the lawful from being able to protect themselves. If you are going to murder someone, you're going to do it, regardless. Gun control needs to be practiced in the home, especially where children are present. I keep mine locked in a cabinet and have instructed my children that they will get the beating of their little lives if I ever see them so much as look at a gun.

The gun isn't for me to pull on someone because I'm angry with them, its basically to save my *** if it needs saved. Chances are very slim but crazy $hit does happen, and the last thing I want is to be down in some hollow with a couple of deliverance freaks commenting on how pretty my mouth is. Its the principle of "I'm not going to shoot you unless I think you are going to shoot me".

Reality check, ranchers rarely carry big six shooters, not long ago a small rimfire was standard, but an AR15 or ruger ranch rifle is more standard anymore(in the pick up), with perhaps a feather weight 22 rimfire revovler as a 'kill' pistol for downed animals.
