AWD Problem Solved . . . sort of
#1
Some time ago I posted a problem I had with the AWD on my 96 Xplorer 400.
Recap:
- no AWD in reverse
- indicator light on pod indicating N when in R
- AWD in Hi and Lo when the bike felt like it
- AWD light on button would flick on and off
Solution (I think)
- a $119 (canadian) switch that ran from the rear of the shifter box to the circuit board. It looks similar to a toggle switch with a long bunch of wires connected to it.
The bike was ok in the dealers yard and on a short 5 mile run, but last weekend it started acting up again. The dealer also mentioned something about (1) a wire connecting to the front hub that brealk and (2) possible magnet problems in the front hub.
Any ideas ?

That switch cost me 35 dollars and is easy to replace common problem with that shifter type the spring probably broke in the toggle or you broke the wires on the strut that energizes the magnetic coils on the hubs easy fix

Im not sure.. but wouldn't bypassing the override solve some of these problems... My VERY abused Scrambler finally started having an intermittent problem of the AWD kicking out and the lights lighting up all weird...
After bypassing the reverse rev limiter and the AWD lockout.. iTs been perfect....
The only bad thing is that when I shift to neutral or reverse.. the reverse light is on... When I shift to forward, the light goes out... so its really not a problem to me..
I would look into bypassing it... It is easy to do... just remember that when you do this, if anybody else rides your machine... fore-warn them that it has full power and reverse without the use of the override button...
