ATV trailers

I am looking to buy a 2 place ATV trailer, but have no experience with trailers. I will be doing alot of highway driving to get from CT to other states. Also some pretty rough roads in Maine.
I have narrowed it down to 3 choices .
1. Triton SL8 - built well, alluminum, big gates on both sides that fold down, small 8"- but fat tires, good suspension.
2.Triton UT88 - same as above, but instead of big gates is just a flat trailer wit a ramp that stores underneath and can move around for acess to both sides and back. This trailer might become more handy for non ATV hauling, but seems dangerous not having any side rails.
3. a heavier 6x10 trailer that has 15'' tires. these kind of trailers come with back ramps or entire trailer can be tilted. what I like best here is bigger tires, but I hear that as long as you keep on top of the Triton tires they will be fine.
Anyway - I would appreciate help from anyone with experience with the Tritons or any other trailers.

I do not own a Triton trailer, but have some friends with them. They are really good trailers and as long as you stay under the recommended weight and maintain the tires, you will have no problems. I would personally opt for the one with the attached gates and the rails. You will find that you will use the trailer for much for than hauling atv's and the fold down gates are nice for loading picnic tables, couches, etc. and the rails are nice for support and tieing down stuff. I do own a 5x10 utility with the rear fold down gate. If I was to opt to carry two machines on it, I would opt for a 6.5 x 10 with a side and rear gate or a 6x14. Reason being is that if you plan to put them sideways, the extra 1/2 foot will give you more room to manuever and the side gate makes loading easier. With the 6x14, you could load them end to end. Just my opinion though. I would not opt for the minimum that it would take to get them on. You will quickly get tired of trying to manhandle the machines onto a trailer.

Hey dawgboy I am also from CT and looking to buy a 2 place trailer. I am looking at the Trition SL8 and also the Loadrite ATV trailer. You can go to loadrite.com and see the atv trailer they make. I have a loadrite PWC trailer and have never had a problem with it. I never had to fill the tires either. Maybe we can go riding sometime. MY email is paulie2008@aol.com

Well if you don't have side rails you just use a couple tiedown's on each machine. But if you need sides you can alway's have a local welding shop that deal's with aluminum welding to make you some. Personally I use a tilt bed trailer so you don't worry about ramps slipping on you. For hauling two quad's just get a two place snowmobile trailer just drive both machines on at the same time and you are loaded and ready to roll once you put a tiedown on the front and back of each machine or get a unit such as the trailervise mounted on the front of the trailer. Then you won't need any tiedown's.Trailer-ViseHope this helps and if the cost of the trailervise is to much for you take a picture of it to a welding shop and they can make you something simliar and perhaps cheaper. Hope this help's.

If you are interested in a well built steel trailer, check out the Zieman ATV trailers at:
http://www.zieman.com/
They have some very nicely built units.

The Zieman trailers do look very nice -- unfortunately, Dawgboy or I would have to travel across the country, literally, to pick one up. Apparently they're only sold through authorized dealers, which are all located on the West Coast.

I’ve looked the Triton trailer and they are a very nice trailer, but you also pay for that. I also owned a 6.5”X12’ utility trailer but had to take the ramp gate off once my quads were loaded. I don’t know what you’re looking to haul, but 2 Sportsman are longer than 12”, so the gate won’t close. If you decide to go with the utility trailer go with a 14’ one. I ended up buying a 2-place snowmobile trailer (Karavan) brand new for $650 and like Xpress said couple of tie-down and you’re good to go. I’ve hauled them almost in to Canada and the trailer great I have the short fat tires on the trailer...make sure they are 'C' rated. Good luck on your decision.

I know it's a long haul, but I get my trailers at Siketons Mo. I have a 7.5'x 16' with ramp gate, dual axle, rated at 7500# wired, lights and hand pin striped for $720. I don't know if Jerry James sells his trailers out your way or not. But it might be something to look into. I know he's starting to branch out. Or maybe for a small fee, I'll go pick it up and you can come to Chicago and get it. LOL

I run a aluminum sled trailer, A 10' x 8 1/2', Its great, I can put 3 fullsize quads on it and it pulls like a dream, The only problem with utilty trailers are the narrow width and the added wieght,If they made one over 6ft between the fenders where you could pull 2 side by side they would be great but as the are you need at least a 12 footer to get 2 on with out dragging one around sideways. Mine empty is 400llbs and loaded with 3 quads is around 2000llbs, I picked up a good deal on mine at mobilestructures .com out of elkhart indiana for an off season price of $700, It doesnt have built in ramps but it tilts easy and I just had to add my own tie down eyelets.
