just as all you sp 500 are probaly wondering? should i upgrade to something else? i was at the dunes last weekend and 2 twin brothers pulled up along side me on their kaw 650 4x4's and my friend on his honda 450s after 10 minutes or so of watching the real sand bikes race to the top i asked the kaw 650 if his bike was fast, he said yes that he had beat a 700 polaris the week before, i was hoping that maybe i could remain respectable with and asked him to run me up the dunes it is only about a 300 yd run and i figured he would smoke me, i had a stock sp 500 with stock tires and his he said was stock with 26" mud tires it looked like vamps or outlaws. well the 1st run he beat me by 1 to 1 and 1/2 bike lengths the 2nd race his brother came and we all tied at the top of the hill. he did spin alot on the start of the race but heh i am thrilled that i was competative with them, just thought you'll might want to know.
p.s the dunes are only about 300yds long
and the 450s didn't race he knew better
i had read that the sp500 had good low in and i guess they were right and i don't accredit to my driving either because i mean it ain't hard to shift and go

o yea one other thing we raced in 4wd.

 

If you could keep up with him, then I don't believe that he beat a 700, just my opinion. Thats cool that your stock 500 could keep up with a 650.

 

part of the reason you kept up with him was becuase he had mud tires, mud tires do horrible in the sand.
