Sportsman 90 is dogish

If the restrictor is 2" inside the head pipe then perhaps mine still has one. I look AT the connection, but did not pull it apart enough to see INSIDE the connection.
I've torn all the plastic off and have determined that, at the very least, this thing needs a serious bath! My 12 year old has been the principle rider and has managed to coat the thing with mud. He's getting a larger machine as this thing is obviously not designed for 12 year olds. It's now the machine of my younger boys.
List of things to check so far...
1) Restictor (remove)
2) Clean Carb
3) Check Stator (replace?)
In addition to what's been mentioned here, are there any other things I should check?
Modifications I will make as long as it's torn apart...
1) The fake headlight won't be going back on. The starter switch, ect will be placed in the body plastic.
2) Enlarge and re-route the air intake.
3) Carb modifications (drill out the main jet, any others?)
4) Possible remove the oil tank and go with pre-mixed.
Any additional help or madification suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not rolling in the dough, so the changes will take a while, but I'll probably have this thing for a while (I have a nine year old and a 7 year old too) so I intend to make the most of it.
ftwtfh, I'd not reccommend the sp90 to anyone, now that I've bought one, but circumstances are such that it's either fix this, or the kids don't ride.

Old thread, I know, but I'm picking the 90 up from the dealer today (un-repaired) because the problem was more serious than I thot.
Turns out the cylunder is scored by the sand it sucked in and there is now no compression. Polaris wants about $400 to fix this puppy. Basically they'd need to bore out the cylinder and put a slightly larger piston in it. This would make it a true 90cc (instead of 89cc), but wouldn't add much for power.
So my questions now are...
1) Is this price unreasonable?
2) Is there some other option that, though it may cost slightly more, will add a LOT more performance?
At this point I am not sure if I want to even spend anything on it (and probably won't until spring anyway) or just cut my losses and look for something else (anyone want a used Sportsman 90 for parts?). Next time, I'll look more carefully before buying.

PM Raptor720. He has a lot of knowledge on what can be done to these little things. My son has a Xtreme Machine X90. It's the exact same thing as the Scrammy 90. They are both made by Aeon. My concern with this thing is the shocks. They are so very stiff. I'm afraid to make it much faster for I fear the suspension is not up for it.

my nephew has a 90 and thats what happened to it.ran great for a long time and would even haul my f/a around but he figured he liked water and mud and ended up sucking water through the miserable excuse for a air filter.the cylinder was bored and a new piston was put in and we were charged $340 bucks. the only reason we even had them do it was because they said it was going to be covered under warranty.after the job was done and after waiting 2 months for parts POLARIS would not cover it.it does run good as new now but you could do it yourself for 1/3 of the price. good luck.

Do they make After-market acceseries for the sportsman90? because the Artic Cat 90- Polaris Sportsman 90- and the DS90 bombardier have the same engines!!! I was just wondering if they have made any parts for theses quads??? Our DS90 had some problems with the carburator......

Yes these aftermarket mods will fit..They are made for e-ton and they will also fit the polaris machines..If you go to the website in my previous post they have the parts there...Also if you tell them you are a dealer you will get a cheaper price on the parts...(all you have to do is fax them a letterhead)...Hope this helps you..
