primary spring

I just got finished putting on an orange aftermarket primary spring and air box mod--ha ha so simple!Talk about cat walking! It use to be real hard to get my front end up on my 99 sport. Now it is VERY easy to get it up and hold it.I think I lost alot of top end though.I have not rode it alot but it doesnt pull as hard going down the dirt road like it use to.But boy does it pull hard from a dead stop.Does this sound normal for this spring?I dont want to loose any top end.Do I need to change to a green?Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS p s-- my rpms are alot higher now----could I be out of my torgue range for the motor?I have boyesen power reeds, reed valve spacer,K&N filter, black secondary spring from HOT SEAT,orange primary from RCR and air box mod from RCR.THANKS for the help.

Yes its gonna pull hard from a dead stop because the engagement is so high. My 98 sport engagement was 2800rpm. that high of an engagement also causes tremendous amounts of belt slippage and could possobly groove the clutch surface. Save some trouble, get a clutct kit. Your top speed is gonna suffer becuase of the wasted rpm(about 2800)and because the stock wieghts are not heavy enough to push the orange spring to fully engage the clutch. I went the same path you are going. Had the orange spring with rcr top end stage 1 kit. get a hole kit complementary to your engine. (40.00$ a hour advice from my polaris mechanic). runnin 58g wieght and red primary and violet secondary from hpd trail pipe/ported clutch kit. hope this helped you.

The misconception with kits is that they resolve everybody's problems, when in fact they DO NOT work for everybody, contrary to popular belief. Most do require some slight tweaking.
I suggest you drop down to a 34T rear, swap in a HPD violet secondary spring, supersport button kit and an aftermarket helix, something like 42/38, maybe 42/36, and set the spring to 2/2. The new HPD kevlar belt will help with the belt slippage issue, as well as provide much better wear and power transfer than the OE units.
I ran the orange for over a year and think it is a good spring for a piped (no motor work) bike, but you will have to tune the reast of the CVT to work with it, not against it.
Think it's easy to wheelie now, try a race modded 400, lightened to 375LBS with an angagement aroung 4500RPM's :0
