I have my 55G weights left over from my HPD trail kit and I am fixing to start experimenting soon as my cylinder gets back from RCR. I have a chance to get some 53G weights also. Will I need to go to a different primary spring or will the red yellow work for experimentation? Someone made a post about putting the secondary in the 2/2 position . What does this do for the clutching. It is in the spot that HPD suggested but I can't remember which hole Thanks for your help.

First off, I'd suggest talking to Rick and seeing what people normally run with his porting. Can't remember if you said you were running his pipe also...generally with different experiences he's had, he should be able get you in ballpark. Then with the help of a tach (rec. an analog unit) and the Aaen clutch book, you can get some base-line readings. I don't mean to keep ducking around, but please be patient, run the machine, and see how it behaves....then we can go from there.

Just going from the trail to the race mods, there were a whole lot of changes. Just got a different roller helix from Darrell to try also....so I'll be practicing what I preach with the tach and the chart.

Good Luck, and please keep posting the results.

Adjusting the pretension in the rear spring effects upshift and backshift characteristics. The AAEN clutch tuning book will explain the physics behind it all, and how the different parts of the CVT work together. It's probably the best investment in clutch tuning you can get, next to a tach.

Again I would ask Rick where to start in regards to tuning, but it sounds like either the red yellow or brown spring is where you will end up. There are too many variables involved to dial you in over the computer in one post.

Just be patient.

I checked my tuning notebook, and the stock weights are S 55's. HPD's clutch kit uses a HPD 6 Plain color spring in the primary with 10 AL 53gram weights. I have a RCR ported cylinder on mine, and the combo works very well. The 53 gram weights will raise the engagement RPM slightly over the S 55's
The secondary clutch is in the 2/2 position stock with the red spring. I believe with the violet spring it goes in the same position.

Thanks for the replys back. I am just gonna experiment for the fun of it to see what I come up with. Tuning the auto clutch is new to me but it should be fun. I am also going to do some speed runs to see what is the fastest on top. Can get my hands on a FMF,HSP, and HPD pipe. I will use my GPS for speed runs but don,t know if I can do a 300-400ft speed run to see which pipe is better that way. Could do the same with GPS but do not now how accurate it would be. For now I will ride the wifes Magnum and wait for the cylinder. Should I get the HPD belt or will the Polaris belt be OK? Once again thanks.
