changed gearing

i went from a 42t rear sprocket to a 38t and I Have a ton of slack in the chain.. did i do something wrong or do i need to take links out? i dont want to buy a new chain if i dont have to. And yes i did try tighting the chain

98trailblazer,

Yes, you will have to take a few links out of the chain. When going to a smaller sprocket (4 teeth smaller rear) you will need to remove at least two links or more.

Be careful.......removing too many at one time may leave you with a chain that is not long enough. Play it safe.
