Tire slime?
#1
Okay, I have heard about this so-called tire slime that quad owners are putting into their tires to stop small leaks and punctures. I have had the misfortune of finding the occasional nail, or sharp rock, and was wondering if you guys have tried the "slime" in your tires, and does it work? I have used good 'ol fix-a-flat in emergencies, but usually end up taking the tire off and fixing properly. I've heard about these "run-flat" atv tires too. I am assuming these are stiff sidewall type tires, but what is this noise about tire slime anyways?

SLIME IS A SLIMEY SUSBTANCE WITH SMALL FIBERS IN. IT IS GREN IN COLOR AND YOU NEED TO REMOVE YOUR VALVE CORE BEFORE PUTTING IT IN. I USE SLIME IN BOTH THE 400 AND 350. WORKS GOOD FOR SMALLER HOLES AS LONG AS THE TIRE PRESSURE ISN'T RUN TO HIGH.

Okay then, what is the correct name for this slime then, what does it cost, where can I get it, and how much do you put into each tire? I can see where this stuff would be a life saver if...... guess what I just hit?????

SWAC1,
Altho there are several brands of tire sealant, Slime is a brand name, not a generic one. The general consensus is that Slime is one of the better ones. It comes in various sizes & should be available at your friendly cycle accessories dealer. It is importand to follow the instructions on the bottle, especially re running the machine a short distance to distribute the stuff thru-out the tires. The amount to use will be on the bottle for average sized tires. You can adjust for oversizes or smaller tires like a kid quad.

You can save alot of money if you were to go to the auto parts store and get the Berryman brand of this stuff. Works just as well and you wont be robbed. I think it is around $15 and it comes in a gallon jug with a pump. I believe it says for ATV's to put 16-20 squirts in each tire. I was riding out at the deer lease and got alot of large mesquite thorns in my tires and two went flat. A friend had some left over and gave it to me. after putting it in it has been several month now and there still holding air!

I run slime in all my tires and it hasn't let me down yet. As others have said you should look around for generic brands. I found some by the name brand of camel and it was brown but it was the same price as slime though. But it didn't have the nice valve remover and hose. Website is www.slime.com

My '98 Sport had a major soft spot about 1.5 inches around with the cords showing through. I was ready to buy new tires and someone suggested the Slime. I tried it and that was months ago and the tire is still up and has never gone flat since.
The local cycle shops sell it (or can get it through their supplier) but I got mine at the local Ace Hardware in their lawnmower section. I also noticed the other day in a Sam's Wholesale Club (which means Wal-Mart might have it also). Give it a try. It's better than buying new tires.
