I gave my 700 a real good cleaning last night, and found 2 things that concerned me. First of all I am not getting any fuel mileage. Last weekend I rode 36 miles and used 4.5 gallons of gas. It has been suggested that I have the dealer check the fuel pressure as it may be dumping fuel. I am having that done this week. What concerned me was that there was liquid in the tube under the air box. It wasn?t full, but had a good inch and a half of something in it. When I pulled the plug this stuff smelled just like gas. I have not been in any really deep mud or water, but have splashed through some. The prefilter had some sludge on it, and I have never heard it backfire. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

SpruceDeuce

If your getting enough blow back to saturate your air filter enough to drop out into your airbox. I would say your onto something, with the amount of air going through your air filter I would believe that most of the gas that gets on your filter would evaporate not drop out into your airbox. As well, if your only getting 36-38 miles per tank and my Spruce 700 is getting 70-75 miles per tank it could be possible that half your gas is blowing back into your airbox ( most evaporating on the airfilter and some dropping out into your airbox ). These are just my early morning thoughts I could be out in left field hear lol.

If it is brand new it needs about 100 good miles to see better gas milage. At least thats what happened with mine.

Same thing happened to my Magnum a while back, I found what looked and smelled like a gas/oil combo. I cleaned it out and never had the problem again, and I have no Idea what caused it, but it hasn't done it again since. But if this tells you anything, the machine was brand new when I discovered it. So maybe after breakin, it won't do it.
