clanking sound from the front of sp700
#1
recently, i have noticed a loud clanking sound from the front of my sp700. fast or slow, if you take a big bump you'll hear it. i've had several people look at it and can find nothing wrong, suspension is tight, maybe the drive shafts(they said)! i only have about 120 miles on it. any help, please

thanks, i'll check those things, but this just started a few weeks ago. i don't think anything was left off at the factory, but i will check. i don't know for sure, but it kinda makes that sound when the suspension is unloading... just wondering if anyone else had the same thing, thanks

On my 2001 Xplorer 400, the bottom pivot ball bushing was missing and it made the exact same sound as yours. This bushing is located directly under the top strut mount. You have to remove the nut on top of the mount and pull it down. The bushing looks like a dome. Anyway, just something else to look at. I don't know how it got left out.

Hey friend, I have a ScramblerX 400 4x4. It HAD a clanking noise coming from the front. Come to find out, it was the drive mechanism in the hub. I verified the location of the noise by jacking the front-end up with a floor jack and then rotating the right and left wheels by hand. This produced the "clanking" noise. The 700 Sportsman may not have the same front drive as the Scrambler but if it does then I hope this helps you out.
