OK.. I was told by a polaris dealer my reverse gear lag was caused by worn clutch buttons. Can somebody explain to me in "English" what are clutch buttons and what do they do? Are they on the drive or driven?

The buttons are the component that rides up and down the ramps as your secondary (driven) clutch shifts. If the time has come for parts replacement, I strongly suggest changing over to the roller secondary. HPD's is probably the strongest, although Hot Seat and AAEN also market units. These things are as close to maintenance free as you can get, and come with noticeable acceleration and backshift performance.

^Thanks for the reply. Another question. Sometimes when I put my scrammy in reverse, it will just sit there- with or without the override button pushed. Then about 10 seconds later, it will start going in reverse. Could this also be caused by worn clutch buttons?

That could be a cause. When in doubt open the clutches up and take a look. Never hurts to get in there on a regular basis and blow 'em out with compressed air.
