I am looking to get a GPS. I would be using it on the trail as well as during hunting season. I am curious what model people are using. I am pretty technologicaly able, but easy of use will be a plus.

Thanks,

I bought a Garmin 12. I had to buy a video to show me how to use it, and yes I consider myself to be handy with these little black boxes. Bought a Garmin mount also, but the kind of riding I do tore it up. Had to zip tie it to a flat piece of metal.

I have the garmin etrex with the garmin handle bar mount on my Sportsman 500 H.O. it works good with the handle bar mount on the left side by the on-off switch. So far the GPS has not bounced of the machine one time since putting it on in December of last year.I think the Garmin Etrex is as simple to use as you can get the display is easy to read in the sunlight and the unit is weather proof, and the speed function works better to me than the factory POLARIS speedo.I think you will be pleased with any Garmin unit even the etrex it only cost around $100.00 dollars, good luck on finding the right GPS unit.

I have the Garmin eMap. It is so easy to use I only looked at the instructions after I figured it out. Make sure you turn off the lock to road feature otherwise your off road experiance will look like you were on the road

I did forget to mention that you will have to purchase software to get more detail. This can get expensive. Make sure you compare the software costs.

I would buy the Magellan 315 very easy to use has 6 programmable screens and also has a built in compass, a very handy option. You can also program in UTM and LONG-Lat so you can toggle back in forth saving you remembering all the datums. Very good at locking in in bad conditions, easy on batteries, odometer trip meter screen, also has the towns programmed in.

I think both the eMap and the eTrax use the same Map Sorce software. The eMap supports several types of software so you may not have to go with the Garmin software. Map Source is more of a mapping overlay not a mapping program. I haven't looked but this is my opinion.
