Rincon vs Sp700
#2
I sell Honda's and I dislike Polaris,at least my past two, however,I will tell you that even im NOT impressed with Honda's new Rincon. It has a MSRP of 7599 and my dealership tells us that when they are released,we cant come off MSRP!!
Honda has really missed the boat again on this new release,I mean it still is sporting old style front drum brakes and does not even have the option to lock up the front diff, this is TERRIBLE and Honda will loose market share to the others if they keep this type of thinking up?I am impressed with the new 3spd tranny, but only time will tell how good it will be?
I see a 2003 660 Grizz in my very near future?

boneylong,
I agree.I got to drive my friend Randy and Jeffs new Grizz and liked everything about them. The dealership I work at is owned by a guy who sells most makes/models of ATVs at his other dealership.Since I can allmost get dealer invoice on most anything,I'll wait for the 2003 Grizz and buy one than.

Well, I'll weigh in here. The new Rincon is automatically be the best machine out there (simply because it's a Honda). This will be the headlines that the ATV cabal "Hi Torque" will publish. Personally I think the machine won't do well in the mud. Sporty "radial" tires and not enough weight for it to sink in the mud to find traction will be it's downfall. That and the fact that it doesn't (as of yet) have a locking front differential. But that doesn't matter to the good folks at Hi Torque. As everyone here knows, the true test of a 4x4 machine is on a MX track or sand dunes. Now if we can get them to actually ride them in the real world (like where every one else totally rides) or for that matter even to actually test the machine (not quote false statistics), it will be one of the first miracles of the 21st century.

Mike,
you've been around long enough to know what I personally think about the opinions of magazines?I dont buy them and laugh at the many shoot out winners they have, especially Honda.
I am in total agreement with you,I dont think this thing will do well in the mud either,at least not when compared to the new Grizz, the new 700 Sportsman,or any other ATV in its class that has the abilty to lock up all 4s.Another thing, did you look at the tiny 37mm carb this new Rincon is sporting around? Its my bet that the all out performance of this quad will be suffering a little when compared to machines in its same class. The beleive new 660 Grizz has a 41mm carb?

Why choose the 700 for your match up? A 500 HO will dust any Honda utility quad currently made.
Here is some 2003 info for you to think about. On our last ride we got the VIP tour at the new " Gilbert ORV Park " this is in northern Minnesota. I got word from the factory boys the the 500 HO is going to be replaced by a 600 HO twin.
BTW they had a weight sled pull competition. Polaris locked up 1,2&3 place. My 2002 HO won the stock 4x4 500cc class and Thor got 3rd place. The mighty 700 twin beat me by 3 inches but my friend was in the open class. Where are all the Kawasaki, Honda, and Yamaha people when it comes down to put up or shut up?
Have a good Memorial Day weekend!

I have never doubted or questioned the performance of a 4x4 Polaris. They are at least one of the best mudders around and they also perform very well.Problem is,they cant hold a candle to Honda when it comes to reliability issue's.I guess you just have to ask yourself what you want?
A fun and exciting 4x4 ATV that is in need of constant repairs,
OR
A boring and somewhat slower ATV that is allways on the trail??

I know bashing isnt good....But I despise Polaris with a passion! My Rubicon destroyed two, Two I tell you, 500 HOs in a tug-o-war. My buddy didnt want to break his belt. Time and time again I have seen Polaris belts slip....break.....squeel. And just about everything else imagineable, My belt has never....wait a minute....I think....yep...My Rubicon doesnt have a belt driven transmission, In fact it doesnt have on belt on the engine, other then to turn the fan blade. Now correct me if im wrong, but isnt the transmission in a 500 HO just a snowmobile transmission, in a fourwheeler. Come now people, we all know that a 500 HO doesnt stand a chance against a Rubicon. And Who says a locking differential is the best thing since sliced bread....My limited slip front differential gets just as much traction as your locking differential, and why spin a tire thats not gripping, If any of you knew how a Limited slip differential works, you would understand me. It transfers power from the wheels that slip, to the wheels that grip. In other words, If one front tire is slipping and the other is gripping, it takes power away from the slipping tire, and transfers power to the wheel that grips. Its actually highly complicated. Another thing, you people need to realize that disc brakes are horrible in the mud, why do you think most 4 wheel drive trucks have rear drum brakes, Its because the dont get covered with mud. If the Disc on a disc brake gets caked with mud, the chances of it skipping are very high, That will never happen on a TRiple Sealed drum brake! I have raced Cars and wheelers of all make and model over my life, trust me I know!
