I hope I have come to the right place-

My 02 700 is pretty doggy between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle. If you are sitting still and mash it, you will start to take off hard, then it falls on its face. WOT seems to be good. I had the clutch worked on, went with an orange primary spring, weights with more tip weight, and a 46-40 helix. That was great. I still haven't found a stretch long enough to find the top speed. Then I added a K&N air filter and opened the snorkle back to where it goes from round to square. This is when I lost the middle throttle response. I took the plugs out and they are a tan color. I ran the K&N for about 200 miles. Today I put the stock air filter back on and it is back to good response, no *******.

Here is what I want to know. Is this a sign that I need to increase the main jet or move the clip on the needle jet. What kind of job is it to change jets or move the clip.

Any ideas are appriciated.

Thanks,

SpruceDeuce

Whose your clutch kit from? I know the Hot Seat clan has some nice 700 mods, including a new carb for some pretty impressive gains.

I think that you need to go up a main jet. What jet do you have in it now? It's getting more air in, so it needs to get more fuel in, which means more power. It's not hard to replace a jet, it's easier than the needle adjustment, but neither are very hard to do. If you get a repair manual it should be pretty simple. What size of carb comes on the 700?

Don't quote me on this, but I think the the main jet controls from 3/4 to WOT. So if you're having problems from 1/4 to 3/4, you might want to look at the needle. If you have problems from 0 to 1/8 throttle, then you may need to adjust your idle mixture screw and problems between 1/8 to 1/4 throttle might be adjusted with the low speed pilot jet. If you send me an email addres, I got an article I can email to ya that might help you out in regards to jetting. It explains it in plain English.

BB's got it. The range you are questioning is in the needle. Moving the needle is easier than a main jet b/c you can leave the carb installed in the bike. Drop the needle clip down one notch toward the pointed end to increase fuel from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle.
