I have a new Z400 and it kicks the 400ex's butt. I was able to get mine cheaper than a 400ex also which is another thumbs up for the Z400. It will rev to the moon and the power is pretty unbelievable for a 400. It won't beat a raptor but that wasn't the point, it is a 400ex eater though. Just some food for thought.

I am also looking for a new quad which is most likely going to be a sport quad. I like the 400ex, but I am going to wait and see how the new Polaris sport quad is going to turn out. From what I heard on this forum and from my dealer, it is going to be a 500cc 6-speed manual clutch all out sport quad with long travel suspension, dual a-arms, and maybe some other sweetness. It is going to be very different from any Polaris we've ever seen. And as for the engine, it is not your typical 500 engine that we are familiar with. This thing is a newly developed powerplant that is rumored to be just as fast if not faster than the Raptor.
Hmm...2003 z400, 2003 400ex, or 2003 Polaris Xtreme 500?
I heard nothing but good stuff about the new Suzuki. It is a first year model though. The 400ex is proven tough and reliable, where as the Z400 is pretty awesome so far. I would probly try to see which model I can get cheaper and buy that one, then put the saved money into some mods. Just my opinion.

I picked up a new Z Friday night. I absolutely love it. It will destroy a 400EX with no problems. I have heard rumors of guys puling Raptors through the lower gears but the Yamaha beats it top end hands down. But that should be expected since it is a 660cc and yes they are bad az machines. I will put money on my Z against ANY quad on the trails any time, anywhere. The Z is that good and if your a good experienced rider you will whip anything on the trails. The power delivery hits down low and just pulls through all of the gears. FUN MACHINE. I considered the EX but after reading about the Z there was just no comparison. Suzuki nailed this one perfect.
As for Polaris I got tired of waiting for there sport macine. I am a true Polaris fan, just got impatient. But, you can bet I will have the new bike if it ever gets produced and is what everbody says it will be.
My 2 cents.

there was guy who said the 500 polaris proto beat a piped DS in a drag race bottom and top, on a MX track really bad, and smoked it in the woods.
and he said if not for the four stroke pipes on the side and the beater sound you would mis take it for a 250R look. suppose to have higher 50's for HP. And they say they went through 4 engines now and finally built the one they want, now time for the frame adjustments.
