Scrambler 500
#1
Well I have had my Scrambler for about 3 months. I was the best choice. It is just a good all around quad. It is fast, it has 4 wheel drive. Its perfect. It does not excell in any one thing but it just is great. I probably will buy another next year. We had one guy that had a 400ex and he did not go thru mud or anything because of the fear of getting stuck. I wanted to race him, I think I would've beat him.

Well...you won't beat a 400ex in a drag race...check out the shootout on atvnews.com. But you definitely have an advantage on the trails and in the mud. It would be nice to be able to push a button and get those front tires digging in when the swingarm skidplate gets high centered. Oh, and the reverse would be handy every now and then.

Well shots it seems your in the same boat as me. I just purchased my '01 over a month ago and I love it. I have not raced anyone but it has more power than my Warrior had. How well does yours do in the sand? Do you have to put it in 4x4? So far I have not needed 4x4. What year of 500 do you have?

The only time you need 4x4 in the sand with stock tires is if you don't get a run at a big hill. It goes fine in 2wd. You will need 4x4 almost always when backing up in sand.
I have a '99 which I bought used a few months ago. It has been an awesome machine. I was suprised how sporty a 4x4 could be. The only thing I don't like is how muddy I get when riding it. Sure is awesome when all four wheels get lit up though!

Scramblers are a nice quad, perhaps the best trail quads. Keep them maintained and hopefully nothing will go wrong. I would recommend some after market tires tho. Maybe some Bearclaws, Holeshots, or something depending on the type of riding you do. For trails, I heard that Dirt Devils are a pretty awesome tire. Oh, and some after market wheels would be a VERY good idea because the stockers are just JUNK. You will notice how easily they will get bent and dinged up. If mud flinging in your face is a problem, Polaris does sell extensions for the plastic. I have them on my Scrambler. While the extensions do look less sporty, they do provide more mud protection.
Have fun riding.
