Scrambler still bogging in water
#1
I rode my Scrambler at Finger Lakes state park yesterday. I still have the choking out problem I posted a few weeks ago. I got into some thick mud and began spinning it everywhere. Next thing I know the engine is bogging down and running bad. I put it in neutral and revved it up. It won't idle when this happens. I tried again and got it going good enough to make it out. Later I splashed through a shallow creek (just driving through it) and it bogs down again. It recovers fairly quickly even if I'm still in some water. I drove through water up to my seat and luckily it didn't choke until I was almost out. If it loses power while I'm that deep, the belt will get wet. I can't spin very well in mud with this happening. I really love the Scrambler but this problem must be fixed. Any help is appreciated.

dunno if this is even applicable but I saw this once on a yammi. the guys left engine casing ( covering the stator i think , could be wrong ) had a teeny hole in the top of the gasket. good enough not to lean out but if he got in water it was dead in the water for some reason. maybe your engine is taking on some kind of water somewhere?? just an idea?

Two things come to mind. #1 you are somehow getting water into your airbox. For this I put a K&N air filter with a water repellant outerwear on mine and don't have a problem. #2 The carb has a vent hose that hangs down in between your swingarm and frame, maybe this is sucking water? Just taking a wild stab at it, hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the sugguestions but nothing seems to help. Dielectric grease is on every connector. The spark plug cap fits very tight so I doubt there is any problem there. The air box is always dry. I have plugged the carb drain line on occation but it has no effect. When I first bought the machine (used, several months ago) this did not happen. It has almost began to seem like the engine doesn't like a heavy load. Once it choked while traveling up a long hill and it has done the same while in thick mud... with no water. I may need a new belt soon, but wheelies are no where near as easy to pull as what they used to be. I haven't used Polaris oil. Time to pop the valve cover and see if the cam is still 100%?

Did you try a new spark plug . Also chech to see that the plug wire is not shorting to a ground.
this could happen under load or moisture. Just thoughts.
Also I took the back plate of the clutch cover off and siliconed it to the eng and trans and siliconed where there is anywhere that water could get in and havent had a wet belt since

ok this one sounds alot like what I had to deal with on my warrior. 1st of all lets go back to that vent hose off of the carb . If it is clogged the bike will bog!!! It lets aomosphiric presure in...and dirt and water...I routed mine into the airbox to keep it clean. Take it off ; blow througth it and make sure its clean. Ok to make sure that it didn't put some dirt in the carb you should take off the float bowl look for debris in it and remove the main jet run a a paper clip through it to make sure its clear.
The next step check you engine vent hose1 LOOK FOR KINKS CRACKS ETC and plugging. to simulate the splash effect on the engine water has while riding. Ride around in a controled in viroment and have a buddy throw buckets of water at your engine. this seems silly but helps isolate your problem ( its fun too)
post back so we can see how it goes
