I Have a Magnum 325, which I store outside. Does anyone know when it would be prudent to install an Oil Heater for Cold-weather starting. As I'm unsure if my location (within 100 miles of NYC) would be a wise expense. On the other hand, since I plan to use the snowplow it would be EXTREMELY UPSETTING if I couldn't get the bike started!

Fresh gas in the winter helps carbs a bunch, for oil a synthetic oil in the winter makes cranking on the order of 20x easier over "hardened" normal motor oil... it'll do more than a heater on normal motor oil.

Plowed last winter in some very cold storms and do alot of ice fishing in extreme weather. The Sportsman has never let me down yet, she was a little sluggish starting at 10 below zero but after a couple starts the choke took over and I was off and running. Best advice I have is change ALL the fluids before the onset of winter and you should'nt have a problem. This removes any condensation and water and thus keeps the fluids from freezing and breaking down.

That "a little sluggish" is almost always from thick oil, not cold batteries.
