I just bought new coil springs for my 96 Sportsman400. Do I have to remove the entire strut assy, or can I leave them on,and unbolt from the top and swing the strut outward?

Jay400 you can just drop them out the top. First you need to compress the spring on your struts, heavy duty zip ties will hold them but be carefull and use three or four. After they are compressed unbolt it from the top and take off the nylon spacer. next remove the spring retaining bolt. You should have your dealer compress your new springs, a peice of threaded rod will work also. The main thing you have to be careful of is not to let the a-arm drop all the way down and pop your cv-joint! so block the a-arm up and be careful when fishing the strut out of the hole. Its really a easy job once you get going.

Thanks, that just what I was hopeing for. Zip ties is a good idea, but I have a set of coil spring compressors that I can use.

Your welcome them zip ties are dangerous tried it with three once(all i had at the time) spring flew accross work bench when they broke! Glad I had it out! It takes alittle coaxing to get the strut out. I think its down and to the rear that works. good luck
