HPD timing on 400
#4
400fnsport,
Under the flywheel, there are 3 screws holding on the plate that supports the magneto and the timing pulse generator. Loosen these 3 screws, and rotate the plate ccw to advance, or cw to retard timing.
How's it been going? I haven't heard from any of the crew lately. If you have Austin's email address, please send it to me. Mine is walexa@meila.com

You have to pull the recoil cover, and flywheel. The stator plate is behind there. Loosen the screws and rotate. The bolt just in front of the pull start is the hole to shoot the timing light through. Remember 3000rpm.

Hey walexa, just the same old stuff. I finally got mine all back together and running right. I've actually got to ride it three times, and not have to push it off the trailer after I was done... I figured that's how the timing was set, I was just checking to make sure I was right. I've got both Matt's Magnum here and Austin's 250x, and I got to work on both of them... Hey do you still have that 300ex, I'm just wondering because I race Austin's 300ex and I kind of like it. And I've been looking for a better quad. I've looked at a LT250r, but it needs some clutch work done. Anyway check your PM...

the theory about the advanced timing (21.5 instead of 23.5 degree)is that you must fill some more octane in the gas to get a real gain in hp,on 12.1 billet head i use klotz octane booster wich increase a little engine power with the hotter timing...
i think it will be nice if they were fuel switch like their snowmobiles for premium/regular timing position.
