No I haven't had any problems at all with it. We live in the desert where its often over 100 degrees and no overheating, blown seals, or piston problems yet. She doesn't ride it often to be honest, but I am planning to replace the piston soon as I heard the stocker can fail.

it sounds to me like you need to get your facts strait before spouting off. another thing, if you don't have a polaris and don't plan on getting one, why do you come in this forum and start blurting everything out that you HEARD was wrong with them? maybe i'm just confused about the situation.

I have to agree with Scottaboshia, my folks live by Roseau. There be no engine facility there. The big new complex is like he said, plastic. Ride what you want, join a club.....and pee on a tree hugger!!!! That's the environmental extremist form......mental being the key word.

RINCON,

this is no way intended to show any hostility. But in most of your posts, you seem to find only faults of Polaris machines. Most of the guys in here ride Polaris and have had very good luck with the Polaris brand, myself included. I only traded the SP500 off for the Vinson because the Vinson suited my needs the best. I haven't quite figured out how to read your posts, but most of the time you have anything to say about issues/problems, it's about Polaris. Not all of these guys in here have these problems. So in a polite way, your wording could be changed as well as your topics of discussion. Obviously some people have taken offense to your posts, again, myself included. That is the bad thing of posting on a message board. Nobody can see your expressions or hear your tone of voice while typing, so it isn't too easy for people to see where your coming from.

look here whipper snapper. you saw one 400 in the shop three times, that doesn't constitute a problem with the 400 sport. maybe the guy did some hopups that he didn't know how to do, or maybe he didn't take care of his quad. i'm not confused, i think you assume too much. do you hang around a shop all day and think you know it all or what?

i was just warning the guy with the 400 sport. did i say his was going to do the same thing?? no. I bring up the problems I've seen in polaris quads because that's what we were talking about a POLARIS quad. i'm not bashing polaris just stating what I've witnessed, these are real problems with real quads, I'm not making them up just to bash polaris. and by the way I'd appreciate it if you didn't call me names, I'm not that young. yes I saw one polaris sport in the shop 3 times, but the mechanic, which i know quite well, told me that he's fixed a lot of them with the same problem, and i don't see any reason as to why he would make up stories like that, that would be pointless. no i don't hang around the shop all day and think i know it all, my mechanic does. lol. Sorry if some of you guys can't handle some of the things i say, but i was just warning vagasquadracer about this problem, and if i remember correctly he took no offence to my reply, so i don't know why you guys did.

rincon,

Finally a good question! Well let me see if I can put it this way. The Polaris motors generally have tighter clearance for the piston skirt than Japanese motors. No bashing intended, now, it's the truth. I've seen Japanese machines with piston skirt clearance out as much as .006"- .010" and still run O.K. The Polaris piston skirt clearance have to be from .0023" - .0037" on water cooled machines and .0011"-.0021" on air colled machines in order for them to last.

The main problem is that 99.99% of the time you get someone with a boring machine who works at a combination Polaris/Japanese shop. Most of the boring they do is on Japanese machines whose clearance is much looser than that on a Polaris. This is where the vast majority of the problem lies. Not in the manufacturer, but the guy working the boring machine.

Here is a hint for Polaris owners who want their machines top end done. Have the shop bore the piston to the EXACT size of the piston. Tell them to leave no clearance at all. Then, using a bore honing tool, a drill and feeler gauges hone the cylinder yourself. A good hone should take off .003" easily or less if you have an air cooled engine. (remember, the clearance should be half of the number you're shooting for, in other words .0015 on water cooled models on all sides of the piston) Then install a Swaintech (dome ceramic coated, sides Poly-Moly coated) coated Wiseco piston and you're done.

I have heard horror stories about the water pumps, but haven't had any problems with mine.
