when i said the 2 stroke is a "hell" better i was just reffering to your first reply when talked about the "fun factor" and performance feels wich seem better on the 400,and on the 400 if you're not happy with the engine performances you'll spend LESS and get MOST with the 2 stroke scrambler for sure,in stock form there is no extra mph anyway...
you're right about maintenence factor as well on the 500,i'm not bashing the 500,it is a POLARIS and a very great quad, but as i seen so many guys buying the 500 traded it for the 400 later in the past,i was just remembering, congrats the scrambler are the most recreational atv on the market.

You need to show us a picture of this 03 before you make it look like its 10 yrs old.
Also you have way more than 5 or 6 Grease Zerts
Front A arms @frame(1 on each side)
Lower Ball joints (1 on each side at strut)
......MY2000 and back Steering Shaft (1 upper, 1 lower)
Rear swing arm piviots (left and Right)
Rear Axle Bearings (On the housing)
4x4 models also have=
Frt drive shaft slip joint (1 right by Trans output)
Frt Drive shaft U joint ( atleast 2 or 3 Joints in shaft)
Frt half shaft inner joints (1 on each side)
I figure at least 14, Grease them often and they will last.
(Very inportant when in wet, muddy, and/or sandy conditions or after power washing)

I saw the 2003 Scrambler today and it looks HOT in that blue plastic. I guess it was an early '03 because I heard that the Scramblers were supposed to get new frames.
The differences I noticed was the drain on the PVT housing, located on the left, rear part of it. It's easily noticed because it's a little red piece that screws out. Another difference is the plastic oil tank, yellow painted swingarm, and the new plastic and graphics. Looks almost exactly like the '02 Scrambler 400 X.

I have a 2000 Scrambler 4x4 and love it, my wife rides a 2002 Scrambler X 500 4-stroke, she likes the colors so I guess I should just be happy with that. I do have a 2002 Raptor, that's my go fast bike. I didn't want to mess with my scrambler, other than adding some bigger, more aggressive Gator tires (see "photos" if you like).
My advice to you Evan:
(1) Grease often
(2) WASH IT!! Don't trash it and let it sit for a week packed in mud.
(3) Keep up with your oil changes.
The most important advice that I can give you, regarding your flipping/bending story.........
........KEEP THE RUBBER SIDE DOWN!!! Ha ha
Enjoy, you won't be dissapointed with your Scrambler.

Hey buba crawled around in the gravel and found a total of 11 nipples or zerks as you call them. Couldn't find any on the steering, had the front panel off and felt and looked around but still didn't see them.
1 on rear axle
1 each side rear swing arms
2 under bottom left panel, front drive shaft back u-joint and sleeve
2 front drive shaft foward u-joints
(2)1 each side front shaft to tire u-joints
(2)1 each side front A arms
Thats all I could find and I greased them. There was still lots there but because I was in water yesterday I didn't think it would hurt.
