Be careful what you read on the new Polaris site. They have a lot of misprints right now. It also says for 200 the Trail Blazer comes with the scrambler type long wheel travel suspension, which it does not. I hope they work the bugs out soon.

The Scrambler 500 DOES NOT have the low range transmission, none of the Scramblers do, the 400 or 500 from '95 to '00.

In '97 the Scrambler 500 MIGHT have had the low range gears in it, but didn't have the linkage or the hole drilled out for it. I think it has the Type III transmission which is the same as an Xplorer. In '98, when they swtiched to concentric drive, they put the Type V transmission in them, which don't have the gears for sure.

The Sportsman uses a Type IV, it's completely different from the Scramblers if you look at them side by side. The transmission from a concentric drive Xplorer 400 supposedly bolts into a concentric drive Scrambler 400/500 without problems, but you still have to get linkage & shift box.

The transmission from an Xplorer is $990. I talked to one dealer that said a rough estimate, for all parts, and labor, would be around $1400.

Neither my 99 SCRAMBLER 500 or my 2000 Scrambler 500 have low range. Isn't low range for going slow? My quads don't play that.
