Time for a new chain?
#1
I went to tighten the chain after a hard day of riding yesterday. No matter how I positioned the eccentric, the chain would not get less than 1 7/8 inch of slack. The chain is a year old.The sprockets are in good shape.Do chains "stretch"? The chain visually look good, just will not tighten.Thanks.

Chains do stretch. It's very common. You could possibly take out a link. Especially if you need that much tension. Without gettin it tightened you run the same risks of it being too tight. It will proly snap and could go through the tranny. It could also destroy both sprockets and mess ur swing arm up pretty bad.

heres an easy way to see if it needs replaced, lay it down on a smooth floor (concrete), lay it so it's the same way as it would be on the sprockets the wide side down.
have another guy hold one end so it doesn't move, and while he does that slide it back and forth, and keep it flush with the floor, if it's got more than 1" it probably needs replaced. I get all my chains at my local local farm store, it's a lot cheaper, and seems to last just as long as when you spend $50 from your dealer.
