300 Explorer Upgrades ?
#1
Just thought I would get some input from some of the people who know a lot about the Polaris. I own a 98 300 Explorer. I'm pretty satisfied with the overall machine, but of course after riding a couple of years , I'm looking to improve upon the performance. Who can recommend a tire upgrade. I still have the original Titan 489's oh boy. I've seen a lot of different styles on the market. The Blackwaters and Vampires look pretty impressive. My concern is the tire stagger from front to back. I know the Polaris chain drive is a direct drive system and is probably not very forgiving for mismatching the front to back ratio. Along with that I've noticed that there aren't a lot of sizes to choose from in the more aggressive tires. While on the subject, Are there any small modifications that can be done on the Powerplant, like pipes or carbs, or is that just looking for trouble. Thanks
everyone for any responses to my dilema.

Tildlewave- My brother inlaw and I both have 99 Polaris 300s and are VERY pleased with them overall. We have ridden with all the big machines and go where they do and stay with them on all the trails and have so far had NONE of the problems that many of the other have with their 400-500cc machines. The 300 has been around a long time and am sorry they quit making them. My one friend has one ( 93-94) with over 3000 hard miles on it with the original chains! Just put 2 tie rod ends on it after all those miles. He has used it to build a cabin in the woods which he heats with only wood and all the wood is cut and hauled off his property with his 300. As for upgrades, the tires on yours are the same as ours and I don!t think a larger size will tolerate the small motor. What more performance are you looking for? Ours will top out at 47 MPH and thats while looking back at a Honda 450 and a Yamaha Big Bear! If you need the speed maybe you should look at the 400 Explorer, thats got it all but at a much higher $ tag. You have a good machine as it is, it was designed as a utility machine and thats what we use ours for.Good Luck Pete/ny

Pete/ny Thanks for the reply. I agree with you totally. The machine is a very good and reliable machine. I guess I'm not really looking for more top speed. Just a little more clearance in the deep mud holes , and a tad more power going up hills. But you are right, As far as trail riding, I've had no bikes pull away except for a 300Ex which is quite a bit lighter bike.....Thanks
