A buddy of mine who is a Polaris mechanic said he has been seeing the oil relief valve fail on the SP 700's. He showed me the dismantled engine and the main berring was scorched badly. When this valve fails it causes the main berring to fail. He said Polaris denied knowing anything about it but he has seen it a few times on brand new bikes(??). Thought I would give ya'll heads up...

Whoa, I didn't realize the Polaris forum had an age ceiling of 13. Thought you might want heads up on a problem I saw myself and the local mechanic has seen two thus far not to mention every one comes back with a leaking waterpump gasket and is replaced with the same exact one. I know some Polaris riders have a chip on their shoulder for obvious reasons but this reaches a new level. Guess when your quad locks up you'll know the deal...

As I understand it, these are the known problems with the SP700...

Front exhaust bracket breaking - Polaris replacing it for free.

Water pumps cover gasket leaking - Polaris working on a new cover - seals being repaced for free.

Intake boot splitting - faulty boots being replaced for free.

Wrong fan relay installed on early models - replaced for free.

If there are any other issues, I am not aware of them, and I talk to alot of Polaris techs. Not to say this guy is not correct. I am just not aware of it. It was the first run for this quad, some issues are expected. What is important is how Polaris responds to these issues.

As mentioned, not trying to start a flame, not trying to be a mechanic as the HEAD mechanic said. He is a good friend of mine and the only mechanic at our local Polaris shop. He has seen two, and I looked at the one engine spread out on the table. He showed me the badly scorched main berring to which a new oil relief valve was ordered for it. He reported it to Polaris. I'm sure if I sold Polaris I would say it's not true too or maybe it's isolated in nature. Once again, I usually appreciate a little heads up and thought some of you would too.

Rincon,

I think you will notice the difference is that Polaris riders don’t go to the Honda forums to knock your bikes, or to the Yamaha forums to knock theirs either.

Gregsims gave a fair list of all of the items that people have had trouble with on SP700s across many boards. Two I know are systemic items, the water pump cover and the intake boot. The circuit breaker was mislabeled and affected the sp700 and the 500ho and perhaps the entire Sportsman line. Jham is right, I don’t see anyone at Polaris advertising these problems but I don’t see Honda, Yamaha, or Suzuki advertising their problems either.

I have no problem with what you ride but if you’re going to talk about the difference in bikes why don’t you talk about how good yours is rather than how bad you think our bikes are?
