2001 Scrambler 500 4X4
#1
Recently picked up a 2001 Scrambler 500 4X4 and looking for suggestions for upgrades. My primary goal is to get a little more speed out of it.
I'm considering the following and looking for suggestions and more information.
1) Exhaust System - Currently has stock. What should I look into? FMF?
2) Air Filter - Currently has UNI - thinking K&N w/ Outerwear
3) Jet Kit - ?
4) Clutch / Spring Mods - ?
5) Sand Paddles - Are they worth it for dune riding? If so front & rear or just rear?
6) Aluminum Rims - What brand & thickness for Dunes & Trail riding.
Anything else I should consider looking into that other people can suggest? (Please don't bother responding if all you have to say is "trade it in for a faster bike"
I'm very happy with the Scrambler so far. It is the best of both worlds (Utility / Sport)
Thanks.

I think you REALLY owe a call to Rick Ritter (RCR) or HPd.

Do not get an FMF, unless you want to fiddle around with clutching and what not. You WILL NOT get power from the pipe unless you get a matching clutch kit that was specifically made for that pipe. That's why HPd is your best bet. HPd is a company that SPECIALIZES in Polaris ATV's. Go check out their web site.

I belive you will be very happy with you new toy
As far as perfoamnce update call RCR.
He has a nice kit that would include a New muffler,Jets, proper clutching and Air box mod.
On performance Items stick to those that know polaris.
AAEN
RCR
HPD
HSP
On the paddles well yes they make a nice add on.
I have had 4 different sets.
SKAT TRACK HAULERS 22-11-10
SAND SKATE II 20-11-10
GBC PADDLE MASTERS 20-11-10
GBC SAND DEVILS 20-11-10
My favorites by far are the SKAT TRAK Haulers 22-11-10.
I find that they have much much better floatation. I may not have given a fair chance to the other tires due to there smaller size (THEY JUST SEEM TO DIG).
Front and Rear? well I only run Rear. I tried running Front and Rear paddles and it seemed like it was too much paddle, it seemed to lug the machine down.
My buddie runs the front SMOOTHIE w/shark tooth. They save on weight and Float better. The big difference is off the gas the 489s plow where the smoothie float.
As far as rims ITP or DOUGLAS
.125 for sand (SAVES WEIGHT)
.190 for Trail(Strength)

yes,you should be very happy with your scram if you change/mods all the stuff you selected,HPD,RCR,HSP,AAEN are the main choices for polaris performances upgrades, but they still have other aftermarkets products beside for the 4 stroke engine like big bore kit offered and so on.

My Scramy has the HPD Clutch Kit, Power Maxx kit(big gains with this setup.) I have Douglas Red's(.190 alum rims). I Have Kenda Bear Claws. They are really nice, they can handle sand well cuz of paddle shape and are still good on trails. If you want to go even more, you can get an HPD airbox and jet kit. This will give you the best I've seen outta the 500. Get rid of your floor boards and throw nerfs on. You can get a lighter battery from HPD too. A lighter loner swing arm is a duner must. I took of my steering lights, it helped a lot with swinging the back around.
