Sport97,

The 38mm TMX Mikuni should have been one of the first mods you should have made. I wish I'd have done it first too. You'll find with a properly tuned 38, you'll get much quicker throttle response. Of course you'll use more gas too, but not that much more. It all depends how you ride. If you ride fast and agressive you can practically watch gas gauge drop every time you nail the throttle. Mind you, this is the ONLY down side of the 38mm carb.

If your machine isn't ported or have a Weisco piston, the 38mm carb will be of limited use on the top end. The stock ports don't allow enough flow to fully take advantage of the bigger carb.Once you get the new piston and porting done though, watch out! It gets really scary when you nail the throttle.

Hi Mike,

Did the 38MM carb increase your low end at all vs. the stock carb or did it really add to mid and top end while sacrificing some low end.

wolp,

Yes, oddly enough it did. Because of the increased throttle response the low end actually got better. The biggest hit was in the midrange though. Without the porting, my top end didn't seem to suffer, but after 3/4 throttle all the carb did is make extra noise. The stock piston and cylinder wouldn't flow well enough to take advantage of the larger carb.
