How many guys have wheelied their 700's? I"m not talking pull the wheels up for a couple of feet they all do that. I mean pull the wheels up and ride it for 100 feet or so? I watched a guy do it on my machine past weekend and was impresssed with his abilty.

I can't get mine to wheelie, but I'm not a psycho wheelie guy to begin with. I have a winch that added a lot of weight. It loves to pop up on little bumps in the trail, so maybe somebody better at wheelies than me could get it up, but as far as just mashing the throttle and pulling back, I'd say no to a wheelie, unless there was a little bump to get it started, and you hung your butt off the back rack

He wheelied my machine and I also have a winch on it. He rides one of those honda atc's. He gets off my machine and says, "Nice machine"... The other honda guys almost died. LOL After all I was in honda country.

Yes I have a 700 and can bring the front end up with no problem what so ever. It suprises some that a automatic can do that. But Polaris has the top belt drive system and there engines have the most low end torque. So it doesn't suprise me. I could ride a wheelie on a 500 HO with a little tug on the handlebars. I grew up on 250r's and it was alot easier to ride a wheelie on them though.

Boy, I sure wish I could learn to wheelie mine. I tried a couple times today, but I can only carry the front tires an inch for a little way. Are you guys doing it in low or high? Are you standing on the back rack or leaning back? I tried pushing my weight (220) way back, holding the brake until it engages then dropping the brake and opening the throttle. It takes off great, but no way did it want to do a real wheelie.

My dad bought 2 500 Sportsmans in May (a 97 and a 99). We went for a ride in July with my cousins and their friend who had a brand new 700sp. He bet me that he could hold a wheelie longer than i could (on my brand new z400, it was my first day on it). I took the bet and lost miserably. He just held his brakes for a bit then let them go and was up for close to 100 yards at about 40-45 degrees, he was WAY UP. The first week of august we traded the 99 sportsman 500 for the 700. Its a pretty incredible machine. Its wild to go for a 8 hour ride on the 700, and then get on my 400. . . worlds apart.

northstar,
I think they can do it in high but if you put it in low you should just have to hit the gas and pull back on the bars a bit and it will come up. I sat one right on the back rack so they definatly have the power to bring the front up.

Dave, what are you talking about when you say top belt drive? Are you thinking that the cogs on the top of the belt engage in somthing? They are just to provide added air movement in the clutch cover to help the cooling. Polaris will be going to this belt for all there quads soon.
