The best 4x4 you can by is a HONDA. I would recomend the HONDA FOREMAN 450 or wait until THE HONDA RUBICON 500 comes out and will beat the pants off of any polaris. My prefrence is Honda ALL THE WAY. Maybe if Polaris would be reliable I might consider one of them.

95 Honda Foreman 400 4x4

Ya the Rubicon is so technoligically advanced that it has drum brakes! Hehe, hope that "Hondamatic" transmission will also take care of the brakes.

If you guys want competition in mud, find some dude who has a Traxter which, in my opinion, has the best 4 wheel drive system available on a quad at this point.

gwizardzachatv, you should be banned for all your trashing of other brands! Yes I prefer Polaris but, if you think Polaris is more reliable then Honda your high! They are the most over enigineered thing out there. your right there brakes are from the stone age and there limited grip diff isn't the best niether is there suspention but they are reliable! no top end but reliable! But, hey to each his own I'll go ridding with any make of quad the more the better.

gwizardzachatv,

There's nothing like submitting the most replies to your own post to help justify your own prejudices towards any and all atvs that aren't emblazoned with Polaris on the side of the tank.

I thought you might want to know I used my Grizzly (with the same crappy Ultramtic tranny as the Kodiak) to pull a 2000 Polaris 325 Magnum out of a ditch that I made it through on Sunday. Was the limited slip of the Grizzly better than the Holy Grail of atv drivetrains, the Polaris awd system? NO!, the Polaris was stuck in reverse. After I pulled it out, we used some tools, some cussing and after 25 minutes got it back in a forward gear. This is the 4th time it had happened just when I have been riding with this machine. It is only 3 months old. It has been recorded in many places, including magazines such as Dirt Wheels and 4-Wheel ATV Action, that problems with the shifting mechanism is a common problem and often a cause for less than stellar review. In fact, read the review of the Kawasaki Prairie 300 versus the Spartsman 335 in the February 1999 issue of 4-wheel ATV action. They had to take the cover off the side and adjust the connecting arms to get it in reverse, then had to repeat the process to get it out of reverse. Also, they had trouble getting all wheels to engage in reverse, even when using the rev limiter override switch. This is just one instance that Polaris machines have flaws just like all other brands.

I will admit now, and have admitted in other posts that I have conceded that the Polaris awd system is probably superior for best all around traction. I looked long and hard at a SP500, but chose otherwise because of the shift selector problem. I have read and been told firsthand by another Polaris owner that the problem is worse in the Sportsman series because the independent rear suspension allows more frame flex, which is attributed to be the main cause of the problem.

Now, if you have read this entire response, you can see that I have managed to convey my feelings without using derogatory remarks, no offensive language and I managed to use mixed capitalization and spelled at least 95% or more of the words contained in the post correctly.

I hope your mighty Polaris lives up to YOUR bragging and never breaks down or leaves you stranded. If it does, I hope there is at least one fellow Polaris rider, or you run a great risk of being left on your own if your true-to-life personality is anything like your internet personality.

As a final and lighter-hearted thought, always remember that POLARIS is a POS with something close to a LIAR in the middle!

To all other Polaris owners, no offense, but it is guys like this that give you a bad name.

2000 Grizzly, I love it and think it's great, but I won't spend hours of my time in an exercise in futility trying to convince all the rest of the civilized world to agree.
