Changing the rear axle on a 2001 Sp 500 HO?

I needed a new CV Joint in left rear axle, and I also tore a boot on the same side. I figured that it would be cheaper and easier just to put in a whole new axle. That way I will have all brand new CV Joints and rubber boots on it. I was surprised the rear axel was only $210.00 out the door at my dealer. Are there any tricks to changing the rear axle that I need to know before I start ripping it apart? Also how do I get upper CV Joint out of the case? You know that cup that your CV boot attaches too? I heard that you need to take 2 bars and pop it out because it has a compression ring on the splines? At first, looking at it I thought that I needed to split the rear case. Has anyone done this before? Was it a hard task? Thanks for the Info..

It is all pretty straight forword work. The only problem you may have is getting the CV joint out of the gearcase. I've seen them just pull right out and I've seen some I didn't think were coming out. We've even had to remove the opposite side to beat it out from the back side. You might just get lucky. I'd be soaking it in blaster as much as I could.
I'll be pulling for ya.

you need to unbolt the antisway bar from the upper a-arm soo that you can pull the cv straight out, and not be yanking on it at an angle.
then you need to spray some penetrating oil around where the spines are.
and if you can't yank it straight out, your gonna need two pry bars, but you HAVE to space them equally apart soo that when you pry the splines don't bind side to side.
be careful not to damage the gearcase with the prybars.
