Hate to break it to you, but the Formans, Ranchers and other Honda ATVs are just like any of the other quads. People can and do hurt and kill themselves on them. And if Honda is catering to the family market, and not the sporty market, then why is there a 300ex, and a 400ex? Those are two great machines. Yes they do cater to the family market, but more so to the sport market. I agree that Honda does have the technology (otherwise where did the 400EX come from) to build fast quads. But I disagree that it is to make people think they are a nice, easy quad. I think Honda has things in the work. They are just watching the rest of the market to see what happens first. Nothing wrong with that.

A couple of good points...but where"s a 500 or 6oo ex ?? Idiots come in all shapes n forms and ride all brands!!John Q Puplic will just lump us all together. If Hondas just watching maybe alot of potiental buyers will watch ..nope. They"ll just buy another brand that comes closest to their needs. That"s not very smart marketing.
The new Rubicon is not billed as a sport maschine!
This was not intented to slam sport riders in any way..it just seems like hondas big quads are very "utility" giving Polaris a huge advantage in the "sport utility" market. And WONDERING why??

Lets all remember one thing who sells the most atv's each year, HONDA! Polaris is still #2 and will most likely be second only to Honda. Yes polaris has good auto's but lets be real how many actual manual shift atvs does polaris make? 2 maybe. Hey Polaris guys when you are in a tight technical riding situation that requires "fethering" the cluch, how do you like your auto then? Oh I'm sorry I'm just stuck on my race "old" 250R with my narrow power band. I guess I never slow down enough or grow old enough to ride a auto tranny, yes the honda guys foung this post. Please have a good laugh when you read this cause I was laughing when I first read this post. See ya all later.

All the times I have been in the technical riding situation because of the TRUE 4 WHEEL DRIVE I give it the gas and go on...don't really know what the big deal is. I ride some of the roughest terrain here in WV they are and the automatic is no trouble. Matter of fact what happens when you hit a hill in to high of gear I belive the term is bog down and loose momentum and when you hit it in to low of gear a spin out right. Not to mention when you come down a steep hill in to low of gear...ah yes automatic always in the right gear or technically riding speaking...

All my friends want me to go with them just to pull them out

Bill, the age doesn't matter. It's your mind what makes you forever young and never grown man.
The only difference I see between then and now, is ....a healing process takes longer...??

Why is my message that I posted in your post-atving? Its just "my" opinion that auto trannys are boring to ride and I prefer to have more control of my situition with a manual shifter than a auto. To me the auto tranny takes some of the fun out of riding. Just my opinion

Hmmmmmmmmmmm lets think about this one kids, shall we?? Since we must bring up the issue about Honda finally coming out with a auto.... Then why did Polaris FINALLY come out with a gear driven expedition?? The majority of the quads sold in the market are gear driven quads and polaris had finally designed gear driven machine, Honda is filling the void of no autos in there line up with the Rubicon and Polaris is filling their hole in the line up with the expeditions. Just the facts boys, bye bye. time to ride!!!!

Fact: Most folks are familiar with gearboxes. Polaris decided to give clients a choice here. No similarity to Honda making FUN of the auto tranny, just to finally give in and provide one.

Fact: The loudest Polaris knockers have not spent the time to determine "IF" they really prefer shifting to auto. Most Scrambler riders I know have spent MUCH time shifting, and now see that shifting would slow them down. Technical riding? Been there, done that. Shifting forces certain riding positions and attention. Auto clutch keeps you at the key RPM levels for power whenever you want to be there.

The point is, one by one, as my friends bring their Hondogs and Yammys (Forget the Cat guys)to my mountain escape, they are converted, one by one.

Too many guys on these boards only know their own machines. Without riding a Polaris enough to grasp the value of the auto, kids, you oughta sit back and shush!

By the way, my brother applied for a job selling Hondas this week. They laughingly showed him a comparison of a Honda to the Trail Boss. The point was, the comparison was so "set up" that even the dealer knew it was a joke. They said they know about the Polaris machines, but won't tell potential buyers anything but the company line. (Not knocking that, of course, ya gotta eat!)
