A stick tore the upper rear boot on my Sportsman 400.

What all is involved in replacing the boot?

Do I need to remove the ball joint(s)? Does the drive shaft pull out of the rear-end? What special tools are needed?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks Shawn

I have never done a rear CV boot, but if you download the manual for your machine from the Polaris web site, you should be able to see piece by piece what is involved.

Did the same thing a few weeks ago. No special tools needed, The axle will pull out with a good tug. It will make it easier for you to remove the upper ball joint, that will give you enough room to work. There's a keeper clip on cv assembly that needs to be removed to slide new boot on. Not to hard of a job , 20-25$ for boot and grease. Good luck

Remove the bolt on the a-arm that connect's to the top of the hub. Then you can rotate the hub downward to slide your axle out.
