To start I love my Scram for the type of riding I do here in NY but after 5 years I`m wanting more power. Right now it is stock except Fox long travel front struts, reworked rear Fox and a K&N. Plus wheels and tires.

I`m going to list what I would like to do and estimated prices. I would like to know if anyone has done all or most of this and what their results were. Also if you had the money would you do this or wait for something else? The P650 and Griz660 sound enticing but I don`t want to give up the handling.

I am a die hard 4 stroke fan there is no changing that. Even though I know 2 strokes make more power for the money. This mostly because I know what works and what doesn`t from working on V8`s.

I will be performing all the labor myself except machining.

Engine Mods:
1. high comp. piston 11.5 I still want to run pump gas $140
2. cam not sure whats out there but not wild 150
3. port & polish 250
4. lighten fly wheel 75
5. airbox mod 100
6. pipe I want it as quiet as posible 200
7. bore carb 50

Clutching mods:
1. roller 200
2. helix 80
3. shift kit 175
4. belt 40
5. springs & misc. 75

TOTAL a little over $1500

I don`t want to do the work necessary or the added expense for the 600 & 628 kits so there out. This is all basic bolt on with some top end work.

Thanks guys for you`re opinions.

HEY!!! What's wrong with the purple plastic? LOL If I had the money to waste on plastic, I would get rid of if, but until then, I think the purple is nice. LOL

Hello, you wont put near that kind of money into the clutch. You can buy the total clutch kit with the roller secondary for $290 from HPD. Add a good belt for $40-$45 and the clutch is done. All the engine stuff looks good, except if you pay $250 for a port job, way too much. 4-strokes are a ton easier than 2-strokes to port. You should be able to ship it and get that done for under $150. ( I do them ). Hope this migh all help.Bubba

I just went by published prices by HPD, RCR and Hot Seat from their websites. It`s always nice to hear you can get things done cheaper than expected.

The purple is how my machine got it`s nickname "The EasterEgg" I showed up on easter weekend riding a brand new purple machine one of my so called friends said it looked like one of the eggs his kids did. I like the purple but was thinking of the yellow from the new TB to change the look after changing the performance.

I heard on here to go for the TEAM Secondary roller clutch over HPd's because they are much more heavy duty. But, they are a little bit more $$$.

EasterEgg,

When you put the longer travel Fox struts up front did you have to do anything to accomodate for the extra travel? Different springs right? Anything else? If I don't sell the Scrambler I'm gonna put some new struts on cause the stockers just suck. By the way, do you like the Fox struts? If you can start over again would you go for the Works instead? Just wondering, and sorry about all the questions.

I like the quad. Looks cool.

Why not buy the 600 kit? You will really get what you want then!

They call them long travel but the travel only increases 1/2 inch. They are a simple bolt in replacement for the stockers. I think they made a huge difference in the smaller bumps and jumps a lot less fading. The large jumps was an improvement but not as big. I read on here that they were comparable to the Works but were a little less money and my local dealer can rebuild them vs sending them out.

Frankly I don`t want to do the work required to remove the engine it looks like it would be a pain in the a$$. I`m hoping to be able to remove the top end while it`s still in there. If I can`t I`ll need to re-evaluate and decide to either skip the internals or go all the way.

EasterEgg,

How do you like those Bear Claws? How do they grip in the dirt and mud? Are they 22x8x10? I am not a purple fan, but it looks like you REALLY take care of that '98. Looks good!
