polaris starter and parts buying question
I have a 2000 xepdition 425, with about 210 hrs on it, my starter has slowly went downhill, a few months ago it began to make a clicking noise occasionally when I tried to start it. It has gotten worse and worse and now I am having to pull start it about 80%. I called the closest dealer who is 40 miles away, and he wants me to bring the starter over and let him look it over he says it he thinks it need brushings and/or bearings. The price he quoted me for these was like $50 for brushings and $20 for bearings.
Are there any online dealers who sell starter rebuild kits or anything?, any suggestions on fixing this?
I also need the plasic floor board for one side of the bike and he wants $90 for that.
Is there anywhere online, or a large dealer or parts warehouse I can call and try to get these parts cheaper.
Thanks

Weak battery or worn brushes/bearings. If the bearing seals go out and you get water and grit in the starter, the starter will go downhill quick. You can try taking the starter to an auto electric shop. I was able to have mine rebuilt for $50.00.

Trace the big red positive wire from the battery. It will lead you to the solenoid. From the solenoid another big red wire will lead you to the starter. Make sure the connections are clean and properly tightened. While you're at it, clean and tighten all of the connnections at the battery, the solenoid, and the starter.
