Gear changing question???
#1
I have a '02 700SP and for the life of me I cant figure out what Im doin wrong while changing gears. Is it supposed to be clunky and hard to switch gears???? Any tips/mods to make the gear change smoother?
Im following the directions by hitting the rear brake for Park and High Ive even tried holding the pedal down while changing and NOTHING seems to help make it smoother.
Anyone?

i bet i know what wrong...
the shift cam is lubed with some really nasty grease that hardens and for all purposes resembles cualking compound or silicone.
the area around the cam is not very well sealed and lots of corrosion goes on, and the cam lever starts to freeze up on it's shaft.
to fix, gonna have to take the aluminum, lever (bellcrank) that the shift rod connects to off, and the black plastic gear position switch, wich is held on by a clip, and slides right off it's shaft.
then undo the 6 bolts that hold the lil rectangle cover on.
well i would usually take out the gears and cam, and polish them up, and do a lil custom griding on the cam (or detent star, as some call it)
but, the qucik easy uncoplicated way would be to clean out all hard grease (they probably use it for it's non fling properties)
and spray everything down real well with oil.
clean off all the residue silicone off the cover and base and reinstall with some fresh silicone (i prefer black automotive).
and put it all back together.
If thats too much, then just take it to your dealer and have them do it.
i've seen em get soo bad that that they get stuck in one gear and no amount of force can move the shift lever.
