I have e-mailed Polaris not long after I bought my 98 SP 500. I was told that the moisture was to be expected and not to have concern. Now saying this I wonder in five years will I have to be concerned??? It seems that the people at the factory do not want to improve on the little things that makes customer satisfaction go a long way ie. brake pad quality, speedometers. Even after knowing about these sort of problems since atleast 98 they still put out the same products. What gives??

Hay everybody why don't you all email me a an email concerning your speedometer and I will forward it to Polaris if I can find an email address for them or I will call them. If you email to me title it "speedometer moisture"...later guys.

Have it on our '97 Sportsman 500. Very annoying. I just ignore the speedometer when the moisture is there. Another cure: hairdryer, but it's a lot of screwing around.

moisture in my 99 sp 500 too. Bugs me because I use the odometer quite a bit...I use it to measure the length of shelter belts that I spray. (I charge according to distance.)

jwd121:

Glad you brought this up. I had water in my first one. Dealer put new one on. No problems until last week when my sp500 '00 sat out in an SC thunderstorm and vola! I got water. If anyone knows where to drill the hole, I would like to know where?
I think this is a legitimate beef.

Thanks Hugh
