Default Exhaust for a '99 Xplorer 400

I know there's bee a lot written on this but can anyone help me decide between pipes from HSP, Aaen and HPD exhaust pipes and related speed kits. I am leaning toward them in that order -mostly due to availability of packaged systems. HSP has done the best job of showing in one place, a system for my specific ATV. Aaen seems to have better people on the phone. HPD is very difficult to get a hold of (3-5 central time?).

Can anyone give me some ideas on what choice for the following situation:
'99 Xplorer 400 4x4 (2-stroke)
stock but with K&N Air Filter (don't need one in speed kit)
Would like to purchase a Pipe, Clutch Kit and Possibly Reeds to give me a significant edge on any stock Xplorer, and stock Sportsman 500.
60% of my riding is at 5000 feet above sea-level
>30% of my riding is at 7500-10,000 feet above sea-level
I have no problem rejetting as needed and currently run a 190 Main Jet. I would like a kit that only requires jetting changes to cover the altitude I ride at. 50% of my riding is around town, on roads and I would prefer to maintain (or increase) my top-end which is currently 58-60 mph. Most importantly I would like to get there quicker... I would love to be able to be able to pull the front wheels off the pavement without too much difficulty in low gear. The other 50% of my riding is trails where I like to go fast as well, but sometimes see technical stuff where I would want reasonable bottom-end performance.

I don't mind more sound but don't want it to be annoyingly loud. I also need to have a spark arrestor for my trail riding.

I would recomed the Aaen Torquer pipe and silencer the clutch springs the match up to it.I run this set up on my 400 2stroke Sportsman and I am more than pleased with it.Great low and midrange but not much more on the top.Its not that loud .I have a UNI filter and the carb jetted at 265 on the main.It runs a little rich in the summer but perfeect in the winter.Hope this helps Brad

For an explorer I would stick between RCR, HPD, and/or AAEN.
As far as who makes the most power we won't go there. You will be happy with each of them.
Out of those I would probably go with RCR. I like his service and he has the best prices. Just give him a call.

Some may notice that I didn't suggest Hot Seat. I do not like HSP pipes for the Trailblazer or Explorer because the Pipe and Silencer are one. You have to buy a Add-On sprark arrester to be USF forestry approved. You have no hope of changing the silencer to one that is Internally Spark arrested or to Improve sound level.

Just my 2 cents

On my 95 Xplorer i have a AAEN mid/low range pipe and silencer. It has been great for the last 3 years and the craftsmanship has been excellent. If you don't run in water or just shallow water, take the snorkel off the air box - mine has been off for two years with no problems. this will increase your air flow but still give you alot of protection when trail riding. I talked with AAEN about their roller clutch kit and will probably give one by next summer but to save money for now i have the middle of the color range spring in both clutch plutums- makes a big difference and a HPD kevlar belt. If you want it to rev freer then have a machine shop take 3/4 lb - 1 lb off the flywheel in front of the starter gears and top surface and have them re-balance it. You will immediatly tell a difference. I use dual stage reeds with factory reed cage- just leave the factory metal curls off. i took 0.010" off the head and still use premium gas. i also have a 0.040" over wiseco piston kit - with all this i can easily out run my friends 2002 500 HO and know with a 30 tooth rear sprocket i can out run a 426ex honda race quad. if i can help any email me.

Think twice about a Kevler belt.A softer belt wont eat into your primary. But like I have said "My set up is great for trails" check out the signiture.KYexplorer what reeds are you useing?

i use Boyesen Dual Stage Reeds with the stock reed cage set up but removed the stock metal curved petals. They work very well. All i have to do to race is change the 4 tires and rear shock so alot of times we will race on Saturday Night and then trail ride on Sundays.
