Default Plugs - what's the best?

What's the best spark plug out there? I've been using a NGK - one step better than standard (I think it is platinum) but don't believe the dealer is giving me a good price (almost $10 each).

I'm not a big fan of NGK either, and would prefer to buy a Bosch or Splitfire. Anybody know of a good on-line source for plugs? ow do you cross reference NGK's BR8ES? Is anything that starts BR8... going to fit?

Thanks - Dave

Aw well, here I go being contrary again. NGK's are great plugs. I use Autolite as my next favorite.

I don't think the plantinum is doing much for you, as yo're not trying to get a 100,000 between tune-ups. You want to avoid plug fouling. The gold palidium fine-wires are designed for that purpose.

Splitfire's have a rep, but most people that have dyno's or raced laugh about them. I've used them and noticed nothing. I've never heard anything bad about a bosch....

I've drag raced, built marine motors, and played with street bikes of various things for a while now. NGK and autolite are, in general, the gold standard most count on.

I suppose, if I wanted to try to gain HP on a plug, rather then worry about the plug brand I'd index it. that's when one shimm's a plug so that the open side of the electrode faces a preferred direction. That too is oft debated, but I'd take intake facing.
