I was reading through my manual tonight trying to find out what weight motor oil Polaris recommends... I could NOT find anything other than, "Polaris Synthetic Oil." Hmm, okay.

Anyway, so I found the specs page in back and there was some cool stuff in it that I hadn't seen anywhere else, so I thought I'd post:

Carb Specs:

Pilot Jet: 45
Main Jet: 150
Needle Jet O-OM (whatever that means)
Alternator Output: 200 watts @ 3000 RPM
Compression Ratio: 10.8:1
Ignition Timing: 30 deg. +/- 3 deg. @ 3000 RPM
Spark Plug: NGK DCPRSE / 0.9mm / .035 in.

Drive Ratio: 14 (f) / 37 (r)

Gear Ratios:

1: 2.6
2: 1.7
3: 1.3
4: 1.1
5: 0.9

Jetting Chart:

0-6000', below 40 deg F (155) above 40 deg F (150)
6000-12000', below 40 deg F (147.5) above 40 deg F (142.5)

Lessee... other tidbits that I've noticed:

Wheel lugs are 14mm and get torqued to 30 ft-lbs
Oil drain plugs are also 14mm
Bolts to get to oil filter are 10mm

snar: Did you have to purchase that manual, or did it come with? Is it a standard owners manual, or is it a full blown shop manual?

How many hours into riding do they recommend adjusting the valves for the first time, and when is the second recommended hour interval for adjusting the valves?

Does the oil drain out without getting all over the frame and other engine componets?

Where is the oil filter located, easy to get to?

Thx man.... oh, about you riding from your garage....that's just awesome!

It's the owner's manual. They dont' have shop manuals yet but I have my name on one for when they do arrive.

I haven't seen anything listed for valve adjustments yet. It was more interested in oil changes and greasing all the various zirks on the suspension (there are about two thousand in all).

If you're familiar with a Honda 400EX, the oil filter is in virtually the same location. The two main drains don't get oil anywhere, but I did manage to fill up the skid plate wtih oil because of drainage from the oil filter housing (so put something under it to "ramp" oil down into the pan).

Thx snar... I'll be sure to ramp that oil down to the pan.......

I'm still curious about the valve adjustment intervals.... which I'm surprised are not in that book of yours...

Out of curiousity, what's the going rate for that manual you have on order?

predman: In order to combat my depression about waiting more than a month extra, I've reduced expectation from Polaris to ZILCH. Meaning, no matter what happens this month, I'll be happy with the outcome. haha

Hope your TL turns up soon.....

My TL Predator will be here Monday. Note to all other PREDATOR owners, my dealer told me that there has been a recall already, something to do with the rear of the quad he said, some bolt or clip or something, nothin major I'm told though. We'll see on Monday FINALLY.

Hey SNARFBLAT, did you notice if any of your Zerks were lose? I just rergreased mine and noticed that the top rear ones on the upper a-arms were very loose.

predatorman, I’ve got a 2004 TLD and have not heard anything about a recall other then the front brake issue - for those of you who are holding off getting this done - dont! My riding buddies lost its fluid on a ride this weekend (went from fine to completely fluid less in a matter of minutes.) Back to the original reason for this post - his rear axel seal also blew on this ride - flung grease all over the rear sprocket - I wonder if this could be the issue?

There was a recall back in Dec of 02 (which is where this thread is from) having to do with the capiler bolts not being torqued. The other front brake issue is more recent
